Will You Need A Separate Hard Drive For Your Mini Notebook Computer?Mini Computers: Do I Need A Hard Drive?
Question: I'm about to buy a mini notebook computer, but it has a small hard drive. Do I need to get a bigger external drive, too?
Answer:
Like with most computer "what do I need" questions, the answer is "It Depends.".
If your goal is to replace your home computer, and you want to store all of your pictures and videos on the computer, then the answer is probably "Yes." You should look into a quality external usb hard drive. Prices for these have been coming down for a while now, and you should be able to get a drive that will fit everything you need it to for about $100.
If you use primarily online services to store your family photos and videos, then the answer may be "no."
If you think you will need a larger hard drive to store large programs, then quite frankly, you may need to be looking at a different type of computer. For instance, most modern games take up 1gb+ of hard drive space. Mini notebooks aren't made to do the graphics processing those games require, anyway, so, as I said, you may be better off getting a regular laptop or desktop anyway.
